Phillip Lee Mathis was born June 24, 1965, in Atlanta, Georgia, and went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Phillip was the son of Reggie Mathis and the late Linda Starr Mathis. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church, a graduate of Lakeview High School, and attended Chattanooga State University.

He worked in retail most of his life and was a department manager for K-Mart until it closed. He was the Store Manager at Hobby Lobby in Cartersville and later was the Operations Manager at Ollie's of Chattanooga until he retired.

Phillip bravely battled terminal cancer since May 2016. He was an inspiration to not only his family but to all who knew him. He witnessed for Jesus at every opportunity. He wanted everyone who did not know the Lord to come to the Lord and be saved. As long as he was able to speak, he told people, "God is good." He loved his family, was fiercely devoted to them, and prayed for them, as well as others, every day. His sister, Teresa, was his best friend.

He is survived by his parents, Reggie and Regina Mathis of Rossville and Ellijay, GA.
