PHILLIP JAMES MITCHELL, age 79, of Jefferson City, TN passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at Tennova Turkey Creek after a short illness. Preceded in death by mother and father, Roy James Mitchell and Laura Elizabeth Mitchell. He was retired from the US Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was of the Baptist faith and a lifetime member of VFW Post #3380, the Disabled American Veterans; the Dandridge Lions Club, the Jefferson County Genealogical Society, and the Glenmore Preservation Society. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Mitchell; daughters, Beth Martzin (William) of Clinton, TN, and Bonnie Mitchell of Edinburgh, Scotland; grandchildren, Stephen Heisler, Aaron Martzin and Elizabeth Martzin; brother, William Mitchell; sister, Kathy McCoy; nephew, Rev. Todd McCoy; and numerous other nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2023 at Farrar Funeral Home with Rev. Todd McCoy officiating. Family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Family and friends will gather at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery for a 10:00 a.m. military graveside service.
