Phyllis Carlene Campbell, known affectionately by friends and family as Carlene, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, at the age of 80 in her hometown of Greenville, South Carolina. Born on October 12, 1944, in the same loving community, Carlene's life was a testament to her loving nature, intelligence, and selflessness.
Carlene's journey began as a bright light in Greenville, where she grew up surrounded by her devoted brothers, Larry and Robby Miller, and her caring sister, Gail Cox. Her early years were filled with joy, laughter, and the forging of bonds that would last a lifetime. Carlene's heart found its match when she met and married her beloved husband, Paul Campbell. Together, they built a life rich in love and partnership, welcoming their daughter Michele Krueger and son Steve Campbell into the world, who would go on to give them four cherished grandchildren.
Professionally, Carlene was a woman of great skill and dedication. For many years, she served diligently as a court reporter, a role that highlighted her intelligence and attention to detail. Her entrepreneurial spirit later led her to become a business owner, co-founding Campbell/Hadaway and Associates. Her commitment to her work was paralleled only by her devotion to her family and her involvement in the community.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Carlene was an exceptional athlete. Her prowess on the tennis court was undeniable, earning her the title of State Champion Tennis Player. Her love for the sport was a reflection of her competitive spirit and her belief in the importance of physical wellness. Carlene's adventurous soul was also evident in her passion for hiking. The trails and natural beauty of South Carolina were her haven, a place where she found peace and solace.
Those who knew Carlene would describe her as a beacon of love and generosity. She had a remarkable ability to uplift those around her, offering support and kindness without hesitation. Her selfless nature was the cornerstone of her character, guiding her actions and leaving a lasting impact on everyone she encountered.
As we bid farewell to Phyllis Carlene Campbell, we celebrate a life richly lived and a woman deeply loved. Her presence will be profoundly missed, but the essence of who she was will forever be woven into the fabric of the lives she touched. Carlene's journey on this earth has ended, but her story continues in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
