Phyllis Catherine (Chambers) Coffey, age 79, of Huntsville, Tennessee, departed this life peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family and friends at her home. Born on June 8, 1945, in Oneida, TN, Phyllis was a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering faith. She dedicated her life to serving others-not only through her long and successful career, but through countless quiet acts of kindness that touched more lives than she ever knew. Phyllis was the proud owner and operator of Master's Touch Salon and Boutique, where she served her community for over 40 years. She also shared her gifts as a beautician instructor at both the Tennessee School of Beauty and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, pouring her experience and wisdom into the next generation.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving husband James E. Coffey, her parents Frank and Lucille Chambers; her parents-in-law Claude and Arthona Coffey; siblings Betty Crabtree, Jean Bridges and husband Amos, Ann-Ruth Sexton, Harold Chambers, Retha Laxton and husband Otis, Frankie Lay and husband Bob, and infants Fred Chambers and Peggy Chambers; siblings-in-law Lounova Sexton and wife Louise, and Tony Coffey; and her nieces Rhonda Misch and Regina Chambers.
A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Phyllis is survived by her beloved children Trent Coffey and wife Robin, and Misty Beaty and husband John. She was a proud grandmother to Jagger Coffey and wife Leondra, Jolie Coffey, Chelsea Beaty, Lillian (Lilly) Beaty, Cyrus West, and Aricin West, each of whom carry forward her spirit of resilience and love.
She is also survived by her dear siblings Sandra Hargett and husband Tom, Christine Bridges and husband Leslie, and Butch Chambers and wife Dorla, as well as her cherished sisters- and brothers-in-law Claudette Smith and husband Robert, Claudia Tillman and husband Andy, Carletta Thomas and husband Jack, and Mary Chambers. She held a special place in her heart for close friends Don Jeffers, William (Poppy) Wallace, Vickie Jones, and Janice Daugherty, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends..
A faithful woman of prayer, Phyllis was a pillar of spiritual strength to many. She was known for being a true prayer warrior, someone who carried others' burdens and prayed fervently for her family, friends, and community. Her home was a haven for those in need, especially for youth facing hard circumstances. She opened her doors and her heart, offering not only shelter but also guidance, mentorship, and unconditional love.
Phyllis will be remembered for her incredible work ethic, her compassion, and her ability to love without limits. The values she lived by are now lived out by her children and grandchildren-her legacy of love, faith, and service will live on for generations.
The family will receive friends for a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday March the 29, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. until time of Memorial Service to begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville with Bro. Jim West officiating. Music to be provided by Andi Marie Vestal. Inurnment to follow in the Mossop Cemetery.
The family finds comfort in the words of Psalm 91, a scripture Phyllis often turned to: "He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust."
Though she is no longer with us in body, the warmth of her spirit remains ever-present in the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished. Special thanks to Dr. Tim Smith, Mickey Flint, Big South Fork Medical Center and their amazing nursing staff, Oneida Nursing and Rehab Center, and Quality Hospice Care. We would like to also give a heart-felt thank you to her hospice nurses, Brenda Smith and Tianne Harness, for their compassion, respect, and kindness in her final days.
The family requests in Lieu of flowers that donations be made to the: STAND Youth Service Learning Initiative. P.O. Box 4893 Oneida, TN 37841 423-286-9925
