Mrs. Phyllis Ann Conrad

Mrs. Phyllis Ann Conrad (née Tate), born to Alexander and Miriam Tate on January 18, 1934, in the District of Columbia, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2025, in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was 91 years old. Phyllis graduated from Northwestern High School and went on to attend the University of Maryland, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Her early education and collegiate experiences laid the foundation for a life marked by dedication, resilience, and warmth. Throughout her professional life, Phyllis contributed her talents to several organizations. She worked at the Department of Energy, Midway Florist, and Litton Amecom. Whether in government service or private enterprise, she brought diligence and grace to every role she undertook. On September 25, 1954, Phyllis married William B. Conrad "Bill" at Ager Road Methodist Church in Hyattsville, Maryland. Their union was one of deep love and enduring partnership that spanned decades until Bill's passing in 2020. Together they built a life filled with shared joys and lasting memories. Phyllis found great joy in her family. She is lovingly remembered by her children Cheryl L. Conrad (Kristi Caulfield), Gary W. Conrad (Nancy Conrad), and Daryl Conrad; as well as her cherished grandchildren Shelby Conrad (Zach Hollon) and Alexander Conrad (Alessa Moore). Her family was a constant source of pride and happiness throughout her life. Phyllis was predeceased in death by her loving sister, Sandy King and her husband Tom. In addition to her devotion to family and work, Phyllis enjoyed an active lifestyle filled with hobbies that brought her joy and connection with others. She had a passion for tennis and gardening – activities that reflected both her spirited nature and nurturing soul. She picked up tennis mid-life and excelled. She competed with the New Carrollton Women's Club Ladder, as well as contributing substantially to "The Chesapeake Baybes", winning the United States Tennis Association (USTA) County, Sectionals, and culminating in the team traveling to Arizona and placing third in the National competition. Phyllis continued to play tennis well into her 80's and was extremely competitive throughout her tennis career. She also delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and engaging in friendly games of cornhole and jarts. Phyllis's legacy is one of love, perseverance, and quiet strength, coupled with a great sense of humor. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire all those lives she touched. Phyllis will be laid to rest with Bill at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Crownsville.
