Phyllis J. Correa, 79, of Vincennes, passed away Saturday June 14, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Hospital with her family at her bedside. Phyllis was born March 3, 1946 in Vincennes, the daughter of Paul J. and Helen J. O'Dell Halter. She was a graduate of St. Rose Academy and attended Vincennes University. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Her diverse careers began as a telephone operator for Indiana Bell Telephone. She married Aurelio Correa, they moved to Venezuela, where she taught English. She moved back to the U.S. and began another chapter in her life. She opened the Stride Right Shoe Store that still operates today as Sara's Stride Right. She continued her career at the Good Samaritan Hospital working in patient billing and as a Spanish translator. She was a Spanish translator for Mouzin Farms for the legal migrant workers. After retirement, she enjoyed working at St. Vincent DePaul Store and enjoyed working at Back Room 5. She enjoyed her friends from all over the world, keeping in contact and caring for their lives. She always had gratitude for having the parents and family she had and was fortunate to have been blessed in her life venture being the eternal optimist. She was active in her card group, the Hospital Lunch Gang. She was willing to help anyone who needed it. She truly gave of herself where she was needed to be a friend of the friendless. Her most enjoyable of her ventures was being a devoted mother, grandmother and family member of the Halter clan.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Rebecca Correa of Plainfield, IL, Ricardo (Liliana) Correa of Boynton Beach, FL, her grandchildren, Victor Otero, Sofia Otero, Daniel Otero, her great grandson, Rafael Otero and her sisters and brothers, Anita K. Paladino of Jamestown, NY, Susan (Joe) Orr of Vincennes, Elaine (Rick) Carie of Vincennes, Richard (Cindy) Halter of Washington, IN, Kevin Halter of Vincennes, IN and her many nieces and nephews who loved her. Her special friends, Erma Barmes, Shyla Ford and Rick Holscher who aided her when she needed help.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her former husband, Aurelio Correa, a son Rafa Correa, her parents, Paul J and Helen J. Halter, 2 brothers, Vernon Halter and Kenneth Halter and a sister in infancy, Helen Paulette Halter.

A Mass of Christitan Burial will be celebrated Thursday June 19, 2025 at 12:00 Noon at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr. Tony Ernst officiating. She will be laid to rest in Mt. Calvary Cemetery next to her son, Rafa. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 12:00 Noon at the church. My deepest sympathies to Rebecca and Ricardo and families. Phyllis was one of my most cherished people and I know she will be missed. She was bright, bubbly and beautiful, fun-loving and always ready to do, to help, to listen. She was my closest friend in the Judibana years. She was loved and appreciated.
