Phyllis Oxborrow Crookston, 93, of American Fork, Utah passed away Friday, June 27, 2025 at her home with her family by her side. She was born October 3, 1931 in Ely, Nevada to Delbert and Eva Oxborrow. She married Robert N Crookston on December 2, 1949 in Winnemucca, Nevada.
After their marriage, Phyllis and Robert made their first home in Lehi. They later moved to American Fork in 1951 and still live in that home. Phyllis was involved in many civic events in American Fork and served as the President of American Fork Civic Chorus, Centennial Committee Charmain for American Fork, on the historical committee for the American Fork Cemetery, planted trees in the Pioneer Cemetery in American Fork, President of the PTA at Greenwood Elementary School for two years and served in the American Fork Historical Society for 35 years.
She was an Medical Assistant for 27 years for various doctors in Utah County. Phyllis was the first female EMT in American Fork and won EMT of the Year in 1982.
In 1971 she traveled to Guatemala with Dr. David R. Haymond and family to care for the local indigenous people in need. She returned to Guatemala a second time with a group in an old school bus to provide medicine to the native people.
Phyllis enjoyed hunting and a one time she had a Boone and Crockett Buck measuring 199.18.
She is survived by her husband Robert; four children: Linda (Gary Carter) Crookston, Becky C DeMunbrun, Robert D Crookston, Janice C (Jeffrey) Hanson; 10 grandchildren: Jillinda, Matthew, Laura, Jennifer, David, Christoper, Robert Julian, Jacob, Joshua and Jared; 17 great-grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren and sister, Alona Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings: Gary Oxborrow and Dennis "Skip" Oxborrow; grandson, Jeremy B Hall and a great grandson: Trenedy and great great granddaughter Hannah Rose Milne.
A celebration of life for Phyllis will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 at 7:00 pm in the Olpin Family Mortuary Chapel, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove. Family and friends invited to attend to honor Phyllis for life well lived.
