Phyllis Jean Delano Skinner, born March 25, 1935, passed away on July 9, 2025.
She graduated from Brockton (MA) High School in 1953. After earning a Nursing Diploma from Mass. General Hospital in 1956, Phyllis obtained B.S. and M.S. degrees in Nursing from Boston University in 1960 and 1967. Throughout her career from 1956 to 2019, Phyllis held a variety of nursing positions. She worked with children and young adults at Massachusetts General Hospital, Newington (CT) Children's Hospital, and Charms Collaborative in Stoughton, MA. She was Director of Nursing at the Iowa Methodist Hospital, and later on at the Newington Children's Hospital, then Director of Staff Development at Goddard Memorial Hospital in Stoughton, MA. After moving to Northfield Vermont in 1991, Phyllis was a staff nurse at Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, and Maple Hill Residential Care Home in Waterbury.
In 1979, she married Leslie Skinner Jr. and enjoyed a rather large stepfamily as well as 2 godsons. Her memberships include Sigma Tau-National Honor Society for Nursing, Mass. General Hospital Nurses Alumnae, Capital City Grange, Naomi and Beulah Chapters Order of the Eastern Star, and Vermont Automobile Enthusiasts.
She is predeceased by her husband, and parents Ellis R. Delano and A. Adele (Cunningham) Delano.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the Northfield United Methodist Parish at 11:00 a.m. In place of flowers, donations can be made to the Vermont State Grange Alice Cossingham Nursing Studies Scholarship Fund. Make checks payable to Vermont State Grange, write Cossingham on the memo line, and mail to Janice Rousselle, 394 River Road, Colchester, VT. 05446.
