Phyllis J. Detwiler, 92, of Columbus, passed away Sunday morning, August 31, 2025, at Smith’s Mill Health Campus Assisted Living, New Albany.
Phyllis was born on December 29, 1932, in Urbana, Ohio, to the late Robert C. Pickering and Elsie (Huffman) Pickering. She married Allen Mills Detwiler on August 4, 1951, in Bellefontaine, and he preceded her in death on July 28, 2023. Phyllis was also preceded in death by a sister Dorma Ross; brothers Richard Pickering and Jim Pickering; brother-in-law Bob Ross; sister-in-law Hallie Pickering; and niece Tammy Detwiler.
Phyllis is survived by daughters: Margie (Craig) Sears, and Janet (Larry) Lawson; a grandson Nicholas (Jen) Lawson; 4 great-grandchildren: Westen, Brecken, Lettie, and Collins; a nephew Danny Detwiler, and sister-in-law Patty Pickering.
Phyllis worked into her 80’s as a bookkeeper for Sears Heating and Cooling in Columbus, before retiring. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Phyllis enjoyed sewing, traveling, and loved to square dance.
Phyllis’ funeral service will be Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11am at Eichholtz & Daring Funeral Home & Cremation Center, West Liberty, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10-11am. Burial will follow in Kingscreek Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
