Phyllis Galnick
1934-2025
Phyllis Galnick, loving mother, passed away peacefully under hospice care on November, 2025.
She was born in April of 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Sydelle and Hyman.
Growing up in downtown Chicago, she enjoyed a happy homelife in a loving Jewish home. Her girlhood thrived with an active social life while also learning to play classical piano. As a young woman, she graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in Psychology while pursuing a minor in Classical Piano Performance. It was there, in 1953, that she met and married Franklin Sher. In 1954, they moved to Northern California and raised their five children. Early on, Phyllis and Frank enjoyed trips to Japan, where they fell in love with Japanese culture, architecture and antiques. The home that they loved was built with all these components in mind. During this period, Phyllis became a licensed Interior Decorator, took classes in Chinese cooking, mastered the art of Japanese Flower Arrangement and Japanese Tea Ceremony. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1978.
Phyllis subsequently moved to Concord and worked as a receptionist for a number of years until she met Jim in 1981. They later married. They enjoyed season tickets to the San Francisco Opera, Symphony and Ballet, including local concerts and master classes. Jim and Phyllis also enjoyed many European trips together. Jim passed away in 2013.
At the age of 89, Phyllis moved to Elk Grove to an assisted living home, where she suffered from increasing dementia and Parkinson's disease.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, ex husband Franklin, and son Robert. She is survived by her four children, Candy, Wendy, Toni, and Terri. Also her nine grandchildren: Joshua, Jeremy, Jordan, Michael, Benjamin, Jessica, Madison, Ethan, and Mary as well as her sixteen great-grandchildren.
