Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home and Cremation Services - MarionPhyllis Ann Hill passed away at her home on November 18, 2025. She was born September 24, 1937, married June 23, 1956, to Harold Hill, the love of her life. They had two sons: Brad Hill of Huntsville, Alabama and Don Hill of Crab Orchard.
Phyllis held bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from SIU-C. She began her teaching career at Crab Orchard High School, from which she graduated. She continued as a teacher/counselor at Marion High School until her retirement in 1993.
Phyllis was a lifelong member of NEA and a member of the Cross Community Church (aka. PPBC) where she served as secretary for seven years following her retirement from teaching. She served as teacher of an adult Sunday School class for many years.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother, Rhoda Mae Cline: Stepfather, Robert Cline: Father, Paul Bush: and Stepmother Vinnea Mae Bush: Granddaughter, Katelyn Krumrey and Grandson Grant Hill.
She is survived by her husband Harold Hill; Son Brad (Stacey) Hill, Son Don (Terra) Hill; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Brenda Wall of Marion and brothers Robert and Danny Bush of Carbondale.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mitchell Hughes Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley Ross. In accordance with her wishes there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cross Community Church located at 1505 E. Boyton Street in Marion on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM, where friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow at Coal Bank Springs Cemetery.
