Phyllis Elizabeth Hubert

Phyllis "Mema" Elizabeth Hubert was born on May 4, 1948, in Staten Island, New York to Veronica and John Bodden. She was lovingly raised by her grandmother, Alicia Woods, following her mother's untimely passing. Phyllis graduated from Curtis High School and went on to work at New York Telephone Company in New York City, where she retired in 1994 after 28 years of dedicated service. In 1962, Phyllis was introduced to Elerie Etienne Hubert, whom she later married in August of 1969. After their marriage, they moved to Jersey City, New Jersey, but soon returned after the birth their beloved daughter, Deneen. In May of 1985, the family relocated to Matawan, New Jersey, where they resided for 21 years. Upon retirement, Phyllis and Elerie moved to Tavares, Florida in 2006, where she happily lived out her remaining years. Phyllis was loved by all who met her. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Veronica; her stepmother, Altamease Bodden; her grandmother, Alicia Woods; and her brother, Astor Bodden. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Elerie Hubert; her devoted daughter, Deneen Hubert; and her two cherished grandsons, Troy Hall and Donte Hubert Bonner. She is also survived by beloved family members: Mage Ebanks (Hulsey), Louise Blackman, Lydia Gumbs (Hugo), Enid Valentine, Cherly Duzant, her godson Hulsey "Joey" Ebanks, Jr. (Lisa), Elaine Thompson (Al), and dozens of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws, including: Colette, Justin, Anthony, Mark, Eva, Marlena, Keith, Gregory, Lynette, Monique, Tracy, Etienne, Lucy, Annie, and many more. Phyllis will truly be missed by her family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors who adored her. Phyllis' family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to all those who visited, called, and texted during her illness. The outpouring of love and kindness has been remarkable.
