Obituary published on Legacy.com by Huber-Moore Funeral Home - Bordentown on Oct. 1, 2025.
Phyllis Dorothy Kelty, nee Tregenza, was born in Liverpool, England, on March 26, 1936, to Harry and Ada Tregenza.
During World War II she and her sisters were evacuated to Anglesey, North Wales, for five years. She returned to Liverpool where she would go dancing and bicycling with her lifelong friends and where she met her future husband John "Jack" Kelty, who was stationed with the US Air Force at Burtonwood RAF in northern England. She came to the USA at the age of 18, was married, had two sons, and worked at various jobs including a salesclerk at Dunhams in Trenton, a nurse's aide, and a teacher's aide in the Trenton Public Schools. She later moved to Columbus, New Jersey, to her "English cottage" and after retirement worked at NADE in Mansfield. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Trenton and Jacksonville Presbyterian Church in Columbus. Phyllis had many happy dance parties with her 'English girls' and was always happy to have a party at her house for holidays and birthdays. Many friends enjoyed New Year's Eve at Phyllis' house. After her husband passed, she retired and spent a number of years traveling, dancing, singing, and having fun with her friend Henry Petersen. Phyllis was an avid painter and singer, especially at her church and with her cantata group.
She is preceded in death by her husband John and sisters, Aileen, Sydney and Alma (Toddy). She is survived by her sister Elaine (Poppy) and brother Phillip (Pip), who live in England, son John (Jay) and his wife Trish, and son Lawrence and his wife Sarita, granddaughter Maggie and grandson Gus, who brought her a lot of pride and joy, and her niece Amy Jensen, Wichita, Kansas, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat, Chloe. Phyllis' friendship, positive outlook on life, and determination to live will be missed by all who knew her. She wanted everyone to know that they should not be afraid to pass into the next place.
