On 4:20 AM on the morning of the 1st of March 2024, Mrs. Phyllis Lanzl passed on about a month shy of her 98th birthday. Born in 1926 on the western slopes of Colorado, she grew up in Naturita, attended a teacher's college, married Robert Lanzl as he was demobilized from the US Navy in 1946, lived in Fort Collins while Robert got his degree and a job on the East Coast.
Phyllis raised three children in upstate New York, Illinois, Kentucky and Louisiana, along with multiple dogs, birds, guinea pigs and cats. She was also a voracious gardener with a special love of silver roses. She was an accomplished musician on both piano and classical guitar and enjoyed classical music right to the end. She was also an accomplished cook and baker, taking over Robert's shop (to his chagrin) to make cranberry sauce from scratch at Thanksgiving. She was also a skilled seamstress and worked for a time altering men's and women's clothing for a living and for friends, well into her 80's.
From an early age, Phyllis had an intensely curious mind and was very well read. She had a special love of biblical archeology and subscribed to several publications on that topic for many years. Despite living in many places around our country, she only left the continental United States only once, to visit Hawaii, where she spent many hours admiring orchids that grow wild there, along with the exotic birds.
Phyllis is survived by one daughter, Sheryl Anderson and two sons, Tobin and Colin Lanzl, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at L. A. Muhleisen & Son Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA 70062 on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Interment will be in Norwood Cemetery in Norwood, CO at a later date.
