Phyliss P. Manning passed away on September 14th in Meridian, Idaho. She was 95 1/2 years old.

She is survived by her son Scott Manning, daughter in law Melinda, Granddaughter Merridith and grandson Nathan. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill Manning, daughter Gaylea Manning and grandson Neil Manning. She is also survived by her brother Jack Skinner.

Phyliss was born on March 13, 1930 and graduated from Buhl high school. Phyliss grew up on a farm in Buhl, Idaho. She was a cheerleader in junior high and loved barrel racing on her horse “Lady”. She particularly enjoyed playing highschool basketball. After high school she attended Linx Business School where she earned a Secretarial Degree before becoming engaged.

She and Bill married in 1948 and remained married until Bill’s passing in2013. Phyliss traveled the world as a military wife and after 21 years serving in the military, she and Bill finally put down roots in 1972 in Weiser, Idaho where they became active members of the community. Phyliss has always been engaged in volunteer work and giving back to the community. As a young woman she volunteered as a gray lady at Fort Sill Military Hospital during the Viet Nam era serving mostly soldiers. She was an active Brownie and Girl scout leader in all the places she lived. She helped bolster the Silver Sage Girl Scout Council. While her main job was the home and spending time in her garden, in 1991 she went back to work doing administrative work for Pathways Hospice which started in Weiser then was instrumental in setting up Pathways Hospice later in Ontario, Oregon. She spent 6 years with Pathway Hospice. Phyliss also participated in the Weiser Jonathan Club and Twentieth Century Club and enjoyed many a club meeting with her fellow ladies. One of her main calls to service was involvement with the Ladies of the Elks serving as President for two years and Secretary for three years. She was also honored as Lady Elk of the Year. One of her favorite projects was providing “suits for vets” where The Ladies of the Elks purchased sweat suits for all the Veterans in the Boise Veterans Home and spent an afternoon delivering them and visiting with the veterans. As wife of an Elks member Phyliss went on many fishing trips with other Elks members to catch fish for the Elks fish fry's where the proceeds went towards building the Elks Rehab Hospital in Boise, Idaho. Phyliss served at many occasions at the Elks Club in Weiser. She also enjoyed bowling and participated in bowling leagues for many years. One of her favorite past times was to spend time visiting with her many beloved friends. She also volunteered at ticket sales at the Weiser Fiddle Competitions at the High School. Phyliss grew up as the youngest female of seven children and often spent time visiting her siblings and attending family gatherings. Phyliss called Weiser home for forty seven years. Phyliss lived after her husband’s death for thirteen years. She spent the last five years of her life in an assisted living facility in Meridian due to a stroke.

Burial Services will take place on Friday October 10th at 1-1:30 p.m. at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Boise. This will be followed by a memorial service and luncheon at the Foothills Christian Church on 9655 W. State Street, Garden City, Idaho from 2-4 p.m. on October 10th.
