Phyllis began her working career at 14 years old at the Ideal Cafe and then later at Superburger. She was a proud nurse for more than 40 years. She received her RN from Columbia State and began working at McFarland Hospital and later University Medical Center, where she dedicated her life to caring for patients with skill, kindness, and a servant's heart. Nursing was more than a profession to her-it was a calling, and she lived it faithfully every day.
A prayer warrior of strong faith, Phyllis loved witnessing to others and sharing the hope she found in her relationship with the Lord. Her faith guided her life and touched everyone who knew her.
Above all, Phyllis cherished her family and was fondly known to her grandchildren as "Bumba". She dearly loved her husband, Joe, and treasured the time spent with those closest to her. She shared a special bond with her brothers, and their closeness remained a constant source of joy and support throughout her life.
Phyllis found happiness in the simple pleasures-especially a good trip to Goodwill, where she loved shopping for hidden treasures. She loved a good cheeseburger, tie dye, smiley faces, and peace signs. Phyllis loved watching football and her favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. She also loved watching The Price Is Right, attempting to get on the show for 3 days straight. She also enjoyed the excitement of driving a new car every few years, a tradition that brought her great delight. Her first car, a Volkswagen Beetle, was one she fondly remembered.
Known for her warm spirit and generous heart, Phyllis never met a stranger and was a wonderful person whose life made a difference in countless ways. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
