Phyllis Maxine Wolter Mehrens, born December 25, 1927, passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on December 7, 2023, at the age of 95, in Austin, Texas. Phyllis died as she lived, full of grace and dignity.
Phyllis was born in Cherokee County, Iowa, to Fred Wolter and Nora Kluender. She graduated from Calumet High School in 1945. On December 19, 1945, she married the love of her life, Jack Mehrens of Calumet, whom she met in kindergarten.
Jack and Phyllis lived on the Mehrens' farm in Calumet until they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1956. She and Jack were inseparable until his death in 2006. Soon after his death she moved to Austin, Texas.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, daughter Sue Ann Mehrens, brother William (Bill) Wolter, and son-in-law, Don Nelson. She is survived by son Tom (Fredra) Mehrens of Corpus Christi, TX, daughter Meri Nelson of Austin, TX, son Jay (Peri) Mehrens of Portland, TX, daughter Cara Mehrens (Jim Davis) of Leander, TX, brother-in-law Bill Mehrens of Spring, TX, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services have been postponed at this time due to local travel restrictions and flooding. We will further update when services will be held at Liberty Cemetery in Calumet. The Boothby Funeral Home of Cherokee, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
