Phyllis D. (Poole) Mitchell, 80, of Carmi, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 11, 2025. She was born September 12, 1944, in Herald, Illinois, the daughter of Woodrow and Wilma (Creek) Poole. Phyllis married Sam A. Mitchell, and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2003. She graduated from Carmi High School in 1962. Phyllis worked in her family's business in Seminole, Oklahoma. She was a member of the Tennessee Bend Missionary Baptist Church.
Phyllis is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Joy Klein of Pekin, IL.; two granddaughters, Courtney Elizabeth Reubin and Summer Darlene Tharp; a great-granddaughter, Chevy Harmon; three siblings, Ronald Keith (Pat) Poole, Sharon Austin, and Linda (Tim) Glascock; a sister-in-law, Sherry Poole; a special friend of 18 years, Charlie Preston; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Donald R. Poole; a brother-in-law, Lee Austin; two nieces, Cindy Stocke and Brittany Austin; one nephew, Scott Austin; and her daughter's father, Albert Barbre.
Funeral services for Phyllis D. Mitchell will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Campbell Funeral in Carmi, with burial at Union Ridge Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m., at Campbell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements. Donations may also be mailed to 609 W. Main St. Carmi, IL. 62821
