Phyllis grew up in Yetter, Iowa and attended school in Yetter and Lake City. After graduating Salutatorian from High School in 1952, she attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Sioux City, graduating in 1954. Phyllis married James I Pierce in October 1955. James served as an Aviator in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Rhode Island and Florida. They were married for 54 years until Jim's passing in 2009. After his discharge from the Navy, Jim joined Collins Radio in Richardson, Texas. There they grew their family and made a happy household. Phyllis was a wonderful mother to four children, making sure they were respectful, educated, and had straight teeth. Phyllis attended First Presbyterian Church in Richardson for most of her adult life.
