EDNA MEEK SUMMERS
Edna Auline Meek Summers was born on August 4, 1927 in Sherman, TX to Riley and Mattie Belle Meek. On May 19th, 1946, she married a brash young sailor by the name of Willam (Bill) Summers and they were happily married for 69 1/2 years, even though at the time of their marriage, her family said it wouldn't last for 6 months! It might not have, but Bill had a come-to-Jesus experience and became a minister. She met Bill when his mother, (who had already decided Auline was the perfect girl) introduced them. He proposed on the first date but she didn't accept until the third date. She evidently needed time to think about it! They had 2 children, a boy and a girl. Auline is survived by her daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Greg; granddaughters Holly Robinson (Pat), Jennifer Smith (Mike); great-grandchildren Drew Smith, Tyler Kendrick, David Simpson (Cheyenne), Grant Summers (Tiffeny), Bonnie Sessums (Eddie) and Mollie Meek; great-great-grandchildren Jordyn, Carie, Carter, and Ethan. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill, son Milton and granddaughter Brenda Summers, her parents and all 8 siblings.
Auline felt the call of God on her life from an early age and spent more than 2/3 of her life ministering in one capacity or another. She and Bill accepted their first pastorate in Bowling Green, KY in 1957 after they spent several years as youth pastors. They spent 4 years there before returning to the Dallas Fort Worth area in 1961 where they were assistant pastors for several years before accepting the pastorate of a church in Dimmitt, TX in 1969. In 1978, they felt led to return to the Denton area and accepted the pastorate of Lindsey St. Assembly of God. Together they oversaw the rebuilding of the church, adding new structures and seeing it flourish. They trained several young pastors and Auline coordinated and led the women's ministry, mentoring girls and women as she did in every church they pastored. This was where she really shined and the role she most enjoyed. In 1990 they retired to the Tyler, Tx. area and of course couldn't just retire. It wasn't long before a local church needed a pastor so they accepted and later another church made the same request and they accepted again. In 2004 they retired from the last church they pastored and moved back to the Denton area. Bill was 80 and Auline was 77. It was finally time to rest a bit and enjoy the grandchildren.
Auline was a gifted artist, author and teacher. She was a prayer warrior who loved to spend time with her family and friends. Every single day she prayed for every family member, calling them by name. She absolutely loved music, especially southern gospel. Cooking was another passion and she was famous for her tea cakes and other baked goods. Many people don't know she had a wicked sense of humor and did not hesitate to skip down a sidewalk on family vacation while singing out loud. She fancied herself an amateur actress playing various roles in the annual skits at family reunion; she loved to laugh at herself as well as her brothers and sisters. She was a favorite aunt to all her nieces and nephews, a beloved sister to her siblings and their spouses, and a shoulder to lean on when you just needed to talk. After God and her husband, no one was more important than her family and she loved them fiercely. At the assisted living facility where she spent her last 8 years, dozens of people have shared how she prayed for them, listened to them and counseled them. In June of 2025, she was honored at the North Texas District Council for her 50 years as an ordained minister. That was one of her proudest accomplishments. Auline was strength wrapped in gentleness, serving her Lord faithfully for over 82 years.
