Phyllis Pomerantz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ross G. Walker Funeral Home, Ltd. on Dec. 29, 2025.
Remembering Phyllis Pomerantz (Age 75)

Phyllis Pomerantz, age 75, devoted social worker, professor, mother, grandmother, and loyal friend, passed away after a life defined by purpose and compassion.

Phyllis dedicated her professional life to helping and supporting young mothers living in poverty. As a social worker, she was deeply committed to advocacy, dignity, and equity for those navigating some of life's hardest circumstances. Her work was grounded in action-she believed in asking hard questions, challenging systems, and standing firmly beside those who needed support.

As a college professor, Phyllis touched the lives of thousands of students. She challenged them to think critically, act ethically, and care deeply. Known for her sharp mind and high standards, she pushed students not only to learn, but to become better professionals and more thoughtful human beings.

Phyllis was warm, funny, and smart, with a wit that could be both disarming and incisive. She was deeply principled, unafraid to be critical, and deeply loving to her family. She had deep meaningful friendships that lasted from childhood and she valued those relationships throughout her life.

She is survived by her children, Aaron ( Karen ) and Liza ( Kevin ), and by her beloved grandchildren: Zoey, Auggie, Milo, and Gus, who brought her great joy and pride, and brother Bruce (Millie) Pipman.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Beth Jacob Cemetery in New Kensington, Pennsylvania.

Phyllis Pomerantz will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to justice and equity, her dedication to education, and the countless lives she influenced through her work, her teaching, and her love.

Dear Aaron and Liza,
I am very sorry that your beloved mom, Phyllis, has passed away. The last time I saw your mom was at a Soulive concert with Mary Mietus. We promised we would get together but sadly, never did. Our lives pulled us in different directions, time passed quickly and we lost touch.
I have so many fond memories of the time we spent together on Willowlawn. Your mom was so generous and supportive, kind and funny, responsive and real.
You kids were her pride and joy. I imagine your children , her grandchildren, brought continued happiness to your mom. May she be at peace and her love remain forever in your hearts.

I´m so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. I have so many fond memories of her-most of them with Mary. Phyllis was such a dear friend to Mary, and I know they are reunited now, catching up on all that they missed. My deepest sympathies to you and your families.

Aaron and Liza, I was heartbroken to hear about your mother´s passing. My sister Mary would often bring your mom to my house for Christmas. Your mom was a wonderful person and it was a honor to know her.
Warm Regards,
