Mrs. Phyllis Sanders

MRS. PHYLLIS CANNON SANDERS, age 77, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, August 9, at Chester Baptist Church, with Rev. Sterling Averett and Rev. Ricky Gilmore officiating, with interment in Middle Ground Cemetery.

Phyllis was born on November 18, 1947, in Hawkinsville, GA, to the late Ruth Roland Cannon and Wiley C. Cannon. She was a lifelong resident of Chester, a dedicated member of Chester Baptist Church, and was a 1965 graduate of Dodge County High School. Phyllis received her bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern University while earning a master's degree in education from Georgia Southwestern University. She was a high school educator for the Dodge County School system for over 38 years, where she made a difference in the lives of many students and was selected as a Star Teacher during her career. After her retirement she was an active member with the Georgia Retired Educators Association, the Dodge County chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and the Chester Lions Club. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her Brother, William Cannon, and Brothers-in-law, Randall Sanders, Willard Johnson, and Ivey Woodard.

She is survived by her Husband of 56 years – Larry J. Sanders of Chester, GA; Daughter – Suzannah Sanders Taylor (Cameron) of Chester, GA; Grandchildren – Carson Taylor, Randy Stickney, and Randy Howell; Sisters – Sandra Woodard of Dublin, GA and Ginger Johnson of Cochran, GA; Brother – Waymon Cannon (Jennie) of Cochran, GA; Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law – Marilynn Sanders and Scoot Hinson, both of Eastman, GA; Several nieces and nephews and multiple great-nieces and nephews.

The family may be contacted at the Sanders residence, 560 Larry Sanders Rd., Chester, GA, and will receive friends in Chester Baptist Church from 9:30AM-11:00AM Saturday, August 9. In addition to flowers, the family has requested contributions to Gideons International Bible Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice.
