Phyllis Stumpf Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nelson Funeral Care - Cloquet on Mar. 5, 2025.
Phyllis M. Stumpf, 92, died peacefully in her home on March 2, 2025. Phyllis was a loving mother, grandmother, great- and great-great grandmother, as well as a fun-loving and caring friend to many.
Phyllis moved to Cloquet in 1951 with her husband, John. She was an avid gardener all her life. She was also a masterful seamstress and later enjoyed quilting and donated her handmade quilts to charities. She was an enthusiastic card player, especially for the games of smear and cribbage, but any card game would do.
Phyllis also liked being outdoors, golfing, boating and, later in life, taking daily walks. She was a "social butterfly" and stayed engaged with people and activities until the end. In her current neighborhood she was known as the "Apple Lady" for the luscious apples on her tree, which she shared, along with the goodies she baked with them.
Phyllis was preceded in death by eight of ten siblings; daughter-in-law, Carol Stumpf; and her husband of 70 years, John. She is survived by one sister, Anita Kennedy; her children, Steven Stumpf, Paula (Tim) Young, and Meredith Stumpf; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Nelson Funeral Care, with a time of remembrance at 2 p.m. Please share a memory. The family would like to thank the St. Croix Hospice employees who provided compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to a local VFW, food shelf, or animal shelter.
