Phyllis Johnson Tysor, 85, entered into her Heavenly home and passed peacefully September 15, 2025 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Phyllis was born January 3, 1940 in Asheboro, NC, Randolph Co, to her caring and loving parents, Henry C. Johnson Jr and Lorene Cox Johnson. Phyllis was a great big sister to her younger brother “Gene” and younger sister Deborah. Phyllis is a past member of Giles Chapel United Methodist Church in Asheboro, NC and Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church in Asheboro, NC. Phyllis went to Asheboro City Schools for 12 years and attended cosmetology school; after graduation Phyllis ran a beauty salon in Gibsonville, NC for many years.

Phyllis met the love of her life, Howard Tysor in 1960 and they both were instantly captivated! Phyllis and Howard were married on February 26, 1961 and enjoyed 60 great years of marriage together. They loved to travel and spend time with family. Everyday Howard would ask Phyllis ‘have I told you today, that I love you?’, Howard put Phyllis on a pedestal where she felt loved and cherished. During their marriage they shared two children Susan and Kent; two grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. They were only separated when Howard preceded Phyllis in death October 2021.

Phyllis moved her primary residence to Terra Bella Senior Living Facility February 2023 where she enjoyed many rousing rounds of Bingo! and other games and activities; Phyllis was surrounded by friends, new and old, as well as the caring staff. The family wishes to add a special acknowledgement to all the staff (current and past), residents and visitors who have touched Phyllis’s life since she walked through those doors. THANK YOU to you all at Terra Bella, her last years were cared for, happy and fulfilled!

Phyllis is survived by daughter Susan Tysor, and husband Randy Mullis. Son, Kent Tysor and fiancé’ Shelly Gordon. Brother, Henry E. “Gene” Johnson and wife Cathy, sister Deborah J. Draughn and husband Larry. Granddaughter Kacie Kern; grandson, John Waynick and wife Jana Waynick. Four great-grandchildren, Natalie Caveness, Amelia Waynick, Poppy Kern and Leo Kern. In Laws, Leonard and Sally Tysor. Many nieces and nephews and great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Phyllis was known for her chocolate pound cakes, dolls, paintings and her love of Holden Beach, NC! She will be missed by all who knew her but to remember her will be our joy!
