Ohio. – Phyllis Ann Wesler, age 87, of New
Paris, Ohio, died Sunday, July 9, 2023, peacefully at home.
Born June 30, 1936, In
Richmond, Indiana, to Russell and Helen Pierson, Phyllis was a lifelong resident of this area. She graduated from Jordan College of Music at Butler University with a B. M. degree, M. M. degree from Miami University, and additional credit hours from I. U. East, Earlham College, Ball State, Western Illinois, and Drake University. Phyllis taught instrumental music for 5 years at Jefferson High School in New
Paris, Ohio and 32 years of Elementary music at Centerville Elementary School in Centerville, Indiana. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a musical fraternity. Phyllis was also a member and past president of Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society (International), member and past president of American Association of University Women, member and past president of Wayne Co. Retired Teachers, and was Area VI Director of Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She played trumpet in the American Legion Band and Eaton Community Band. Phyllis also played hand bells and sang in the choir at Central United Methodist Church. She was on the board of Reid Hospital Foundation. Phyllis and her husband traveled to 28 foreign countries and to all 50 states. Her family hosted many foreign exchange students and teachers. Phyllis enjoyed music, traveling, and cooking. She and her husband, Beryl, were honored to be chosen as Preble County's Outstanding Senior Citizens, receiving the award in 2009.
Survivors include two sons, David (Mary) Wesler of New Paris Ohio, and Michael (Cathy) Wesler of
Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Jordan (Rachel) Wesler, Jeffrey (Ansley) Wesler, Kate Wesler, Leslie (Scott) Abbey, Meghan (Joel) Rollins; great grandchildren, Frank Abbey, Sebastian Abbey, Tristan Rollins, Dylan Abbey, Finnigan Abbey, Harrison Wesler, Hadley Wesler, Emilia Mae Wesler; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Beryl Wesler; parents; sister, Judy Hudson; and nephew, Dean Hudson.
Visitation for Phyllis Ann Wesler will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West,
Richmond, Indiana. Additional visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2023, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m., at Doan & Mills Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Lawn Cemetery.
