Mrs. Phyllis Brown Woodall, 78, of
Villa Rica, Georgia, passed away peacefully at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta on Monday, October 20, 2025.
Born on October 18, 1947, in Villa Rica, Phyllis was the daughter of the late Henry Grady Brown and Ruth Fuller Brown. She grew up in Villa Rica alongside her sister, Barbara Jean Brown, and graduated from Villa Rica High School in 1965. She went on to attend Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama, where she earned degrees in English and Social Studies in 1968.
On August 3, 1968, Phyllis married Dr. Harold Steve Woodall at First Baptist Church of Villa Rica. Together they shared fifty-six years of marriage, raising their family with devotion and support. She is survived by her husband and their three children: Amalie Hyneman (Heath), Niles Woodall (Sarah), and Whitney Lichtner (William). Phyllis was the proud and loving grandmother of Hudson, Layton, and Durham Hyneman; Warner Woodall; and Lawson, Lennox, and Lochlan Lichtner.
Phyllis began her professional life as an educator, teaching at Villa Rica Middle School and Glenwood Elementary in DeKalb County, and later with Decatur City Schools while her husband completed dental school at Emory University. In the years that followed, she worked with dedication beside Dr. Woodall in his dental practice, ensuring that everything behind the scenes ran smoothly through her diligence and keen attention to detail.
A lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Villa Rica, Phyllis was part of The Mercy Seekers Class and remained devoted to her church community for more than sixty years. Her faith and steadfast sense of duty shaped both her home and her friendships.
Phyllis lived her life with a firm commitment to tradition and an unwavering standard of excellence-guided, as her family fondly recalls, by "Emily Post standards." She believed that every occasion deserved care and attention, and she made sure every milestone was celebrated properly-with cookie cakes, homemade brownies, or sweet potato casserole and biscuits that were loved by all. Her attention to detail and her dedication to doing things the right way were among her most enduring qualities.
Phyllis embraced life's adventures, especially those that led her to sun-filled places. Every five years she and Steve journeyed back to Tahiti to honor their anniversary-a joyful ritual they shared for more than twenty years. St. Maarten, Hilton Head, and Daytona often dotted the calendar. She also loved the hunt for antiques, a good shopping trip, and the occasional turn on a dance floor.
Above all, Phyllis loved the holidays. Christmas was her season-decorating trees, collecting Snow Babies, giving Wallace Bells, and ensuring her home sparkled with festive warmth. Her annual Christmas breakfast was a staple on the family calendar, and rides to see Christmas lights with Meme and Papa were treasured memories.
Known affectionately for the "candy bucket in the pantry" and her famously flexible sense of time, she balanced refinement, graciousness and grit. Determined, loyal, generous, and adventurous, Phyllis lived her life fully and loved her family deeply.
Phyllis is survived by her dedicated husband, Dr. Harold Steve Woodall; her children and their spouses; her grandchildren; sister; and other treasured family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Grady and Ruth Brown, and her beloved granddaughter, Hollis Hyneman.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Villa Rica. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Danny McKay officiating. Interment will be at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens.
Flowers are accepted, however; memorial donations may be made to the Youth Ministry Summer Camp at First Baptist Church of Villa Rica.
