Pierre Landers (1939-2025) died peacefully in his home on December 20, 2025 in Roswell, New Mexico. He was born in Brussels, Belgium during the beginning of World War II, where German forces soon occupied the city months after his birth. Being Jewish, Pierre, along with his brother, Louie, hid in a convent in 1942, while their father, Paul, hid elsewhere to escape Nazi patrols. Meanwhile, Pierre’s mother, Fanny, walked the war-torn streets to secure food and other provisions to bring back to her children and husband. This event deeply resonated throughout Pierre’s life, but never dulled his dry, witty sense of humor and his devotion towards his family and friends.
With his parents and brother, Pierre came to America in 1951, briefly living in New York City before moving across country to San Diego, California, where he would spend much of his life and eventually begin his own family and career. He attended Hoover High School, graduating in 1957. Shortly after, he attended San Diego State University to study journalism, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Arts.
Pierre worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal service for 35 years in San Diego County, where he married Audrey, who he spent 53 wonderful years with. Together, they raised four children—Erica, Sabrina, Gabriel, and Joshua. Pierre retired from his position at the post office in 1997, and in 2002, he and his wife moved to Roswell, NM, where they spent 23 years before his passing.
Pierre is survived by his wife, four children, five grandchildren, and four great grandkids. He will be remembered fondly by all who had the fortune to know him, as well as those who he even briefly encountered with his bright, warming smile, his quick wit, and his straightforward, hard working demeanor that paved the way for his long and never-ending devotion to his loving family and friends. Pierre will be missed but never forgotten.
