Porfirio “Pilo” Tamez Carrizales, a resident of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away on January 20, 2025, at the age of 66. Born in Monterrey, Mexico on November 17, 1958, Pilo spent most of his life in Port Arthur, where he was a beloved member of the community.

A dedicated baseball umpire for almost 40 years, Pilo had an unwavering passion for the game. His sharp wit and humor could always light up a room, even at the most unexpected times. Pilo found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as visiting the beach and collecting arrowheads. But nothing made him happier than spending time with his grandchildren, “Bubba” and “K.K.”

He is survived by his loving family: his son Neil Tamez and daughter-in-law Lindsay, grandchildren Noah Wallace “Bubba” and Leah Kate “K.K.”, brother Gerardo Tamez Jr. and wife Debbie, brother Tony Tamez and wife Sandy, sister Sylvia Garcia and husband Armando, brother Juan Tamez and wife Kathy, brother Salvador Tamez, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pilo was preceded in death by his parents, Gerardo Sr. and Aurora Tamez; his brother Jaime Tamez; his sisters Vicky Tamez, Coco Tamez, and Maria Christina Tamez.

The family will gather to honor Pilo's life during a visitation on February 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Memorial Service commencing at 11:00 AM, hosted at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 1605 Avenue H, Nederland, TX, 77627.

Pilo’s legacy is marked by his love for family, his contribution to the game of baseball, and his ability to bring laughter and joy to those around him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

May he rest in peace.
