Portia Chidester VanSweden, 93, of Pleasant View, UT died on Monday, April 25, 2022, due to incidence of age at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born August 18, 1928 in Richfield, UT to Aaron Alpheus and Christina Adell Christensen Brown Chidester. She married Leland "Lee" VanSweden on September 14, 1952 in Clearfield, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple, they were married for 70 years. She is the mother of 7 children.
Portia graduated from Richfield High School and later attended LDS Business College and Steven's Henager College. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, doing puzzles, painting by number, and reading. She loved to travel especially in Europe. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in many callings in Primary, Mutual and Relief Society. She also loved serving as a temple worker in the Ogden Temple.
Portia is survived by 5 children, Kristina VanSweden, Ron (Kimberly) VanSweden, Karen Ward, Teresa (Keith, deceased) Hanson, and James (fiancé Jenny) VanSweden. She has 17 Grandchildren, 40 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, son, John, and infant daughter, Maria.
The family would like to thank Independence Hospice for the loving care given to our mother, especially Maria, Lindsay, Shannah, and Tammie.
There will be a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2022 at Ogden City Cemetery, 20th and Madison in Ogden, with a viewing prior from 12:00-2:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT.
Portia's services will be livestreamed. To watch scroll to the bottom of her obituary at www.myers-mortuary.com at 2:30 on Friday, April 29, 2022. If unable to watch at this time the services will be on the website indefinitely.
