Mary Eva Premrose Wilkins Chandler, age 94, of Elizabethtown entered into rest on June 10, 2023, surrounded by family at Cape Fear Valley Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband Dorman M. Chandler, Sr. and son Dorman M. Chandler, Jr. She leaves behind her daughters Susan Holbrook (Bruce) of Kannapolis, NC, and Carol Strickland of Elizabethtown, grandchildren Justin Holbrook, Chandler Strickland, and Matthew Strickland (wife Tyler), and great grandchildren Blakely Kate and Raegan Jane.
Premrose was employed with Bladen Community College as comptroller for 29 years, having began when it was Bladen Tech in 1968. Before she was unable, she volunteered at Elizabethtown Baptist Church and was a member of the Senior Choir where she loved being a part of the “Singing Christmas Tree.” She loved music, guess that’s what attracted her to Dorman, a talented piano player and musician. Through their love of music, they began Ballroom dance lessons and met with friends to dance and traveled to other venues to dance.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 2-3 pm at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 3 pm with the Reverend D.L. Page officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Elizabethtown Baptist Church, 1800 W. Broad Street, Elizabethtown, NC 28337.
