It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Dominick Prevete. Dominick left this life on May 10, 2025, at the age of 88. He lived a long and happy life, born on March 12, 1937 to Frank Prevete and Dorothy DeGregorio, in Union City, New Jersey.
Dominick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita Prevete (nee Zodda), his three children, Jeanine Anthony, Francis John Prevete and Dominick A. Prevete, seven grandchildren; Jessica Varone, Claudia Elizabeth Prevete, Lila Marie Prevete, Dominick A. Prevete, III, Monica and Marcella Mendiburu. He is survived by his son-in-law Jim Anthony, and daughter-in-law Karen Prevete. His grandson Donny LaBell is predeceased. His great-grandchildren, born to Jessica and Mike Varone, Michael and Joseph, and his first born great-grandson Mason Aguilera were his delight.
Dominick was a fierce football player for St. Michael's High School in Union City, and received the MVP Award for his football prowess in his senior year. Upon graduation Dominick enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces and dutifully did his time in Korea, where he was promoted to Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in August of 1957, and immediately began education for his chosen career of Architectural Draftsman. In possession of his first credentials, he began working for S. Blickman of West New York, married, became a father, and in 1962 began his career and architectural studies for the Port Authority of NY and NJ.
His first assignment for the Port was to inspect the boring holes for the building of the future World Trade Center, and then to assist in planning and designing the great slurry wall that was to hold back the Hudson River so that the WTC could be constructed upon solid ground. He was very proud of this and other accomplishments in his thirty-four years with the Port, eventually moving up to Architectural Designer.
Dominick attended night classes at Seton Hall, and at Pratt Institute completing three years of credits towards a degree.
After retirement, Dominick found a new career, Golf. He took golf trips to Myrtle
Beach with buddies, golf vacations with his wife, and any spare time on the course. He and Rita found a sunny haven in Palm City, Florida where they spent twenty years soaking up the sun at the beach and on the golf course.
Our dad was a wonderful human being, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. A quiet, unassuming man, he loved his family fiercely, and was a dear friend to many people whom he loved with all his heart. Dominick will be missed by all of us who knew him, and will be forever loved.
Visitation will be held at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 4-8 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Mary on Friday, May 16 at 11 am. Cremation will be private.
For those desiring donations may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Processing, 6725 Lyons Street, PO Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057 in memory of Dominick.
