Priscilla Boyle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harding Funeral Home on Jun. 26, 2025.
Priscilla Ann (Scanlan) Boyle, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 96.

Priscilla was born on May 14, 1929, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the third of five children of James C. and Mary (White) Scanlan. She was raised in Somerville and Belmont, Massachusetts, as part of a large, close-knit Irish Catholic family whose values shaped her life.

After graduating from Lesley College, Priscilla began her career as a kindergarten teacher in Watertown, MA, where she taught for nine years before meeting and marrying Charles F. Boyle in 1958. Together, they moved to Westport, Connecticut in 1963, where they raised their three children.

Priscilla embraced motherhood as her greatest calling. Her deep love for children, especially her own, defined her days. Her warm and gregarious spirit drew people to her, and she formed lasting friendships through her many activities and interests, including tennis, paddle tennis, the Weston Field Club, Assumption Church, and bridge.

A devoted Roman Catholic, Priscilla was an active member of The Church of the Assumption in Westport for over six decades. She shared her faith through Eucharistic Ministry, prayer groups, book clubs, and as a catechism teacher, with a special dedication to preparing children for their First Communion.

Later in life, Priscilla became a welcoming presence at the Westport YMCA as a receptionist, where she found great joy in connecting with others. She continued caring for children well into her later years, offering her love and support as a trusted babysitter and honorary family member to many.

Grateful for a life filled with love and connection, Priscilla often reflected on how truly blessed she was. She generously shared those blessings through her actions-always ready to lend a hand, offer support, or take charge when needed. Her compassion, vitality, and joy left a lasting mark on everyone she met. She was a beautiful soul, loved by many, and will be deeply missed.

Priscilla was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her siblings Mary Alice Connolly, James W. Scanlan, Anne T. "Nancy" Batal, and Francis V. Scanlan. She was also predeceased by in-laws Mary F. Boyle, John T. Connolly, and John T. Batal.

She is survived by her three children: Charles "Chip" Boyle Jr., Susan Improta (Paul), and Elizabeth Boyle; and her cherished grandsons, Kenneth and Philip Improta. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Alice B. Scanlan and by many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A celebration of Priscilla's life will be held at The Church of the Assumption in Westport, Connecticut, on Tuesday, July 15, at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Priscilla's memory may be made to Smile Train, a charity close to her heart that helps provide life-changing surgery for children born with cleft palates.

I met Priscilla when I moved to Westport in 1991, she was one of the first women to welcome me to Assumption Church. Priscilla´s faith was so strong, it certainly helped strengthen mine. I enjoyed many years of various events/groups with Priscilla and am so grateful our paths crossed. Priscilla was blessed with a wonderful family. May Priscilla rest in God´s loving embrace and may her family find comfort in their happy memories and in the knowledge that they took such great care of her in her time of need. God bless you all. Priscilla will be missed and remembered by so many who knew and loved her.

I worked with Priscilla at the Westport YMCA in the Member Services Dept and later on saw her often at the Westport Center for Senior Activities. She was a gentle soul and loved by many. Please accept my deepest condolences.
