Jeanne was a beauty from South Dakota, born November 28, 1946. She was raised on the banks of the Missouri River by her widowed mother in the small town of Springfield. A perfect setting for her to grow up loving to swim, sail, and explore nature.
Her father was as butcher, as was her grandfather and great-grandfather who migrated to the U.S. with his family from North Holland. Her mother traced her heritage back to Stephen Hopkins, a pilgrim on the Mayflower, so Jeanne was a proud Mayflower Daughter and an active participant in the Mayflower Society.
She met her husband, Jim, at the University of South Dakota when she was a junior and he was an incoming freshman, after serving four years in the military. They married in 1969. Both graduated from the U, Jeanne in 1969 and Jim in 1971. According to Jim it was love at first sight. He just couldn't believe such a gorgeous woman was actually interested in him.
They moved to the Minneapolis metro area in 1971 where Jim had been offered a job with a large accounting firm upon his graduation. They stayed there for the next 54 years, raising their three children: Jennifer, John, and Sarah who provided them with three grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Audrey, Cooper, and Johanna.
Jeanne was an active member of the Congregational Church with her family and friends. She helped out in the Sunday school, with banquets, and many other church activities. She enjoyed working with children very much and did so in the Wayzata School District for 20 years, in the library and filling in when needed elsewhere within the school.
She loved South Dakota and would have moved back in a heartbeat. Jeanne was an adventurous spirit who loved to travel be it flying, driving, or cruising. South Dakota often, back and forth, Colorado, national parks and monuments in the west, Arizona, Utah, Oregon Coast, California Coast, Washington Coast, Florida Coast, and Texas Gulf Coast, all cherished places. She and Jim drove through every state, the southwest being her favorite. They also cruised through most of Europe on their own and with beloved friends.
Jeanne was the Minneapolis Golf Club Nine Hole Group President for 28 years. She and Jim, an avid golfer, enjoyed playing and attended many golf tournaments together over the years.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers and veggies, especially her tomatoes. Lots of time was spent in her beautiful front hosta garden, removing leaves and weeds, or sitting with a cold drink enjoying the beauty of it all with her family.
Strong in a quiet sort of way. Beautiful. Witty. Kind. Caring.
If there is a heaven she will be there no problem
