Happy Times!

Pookie was my children´s Grandmother, my Mother-In-Law, loving Mother to my first husband Richard, her only son, who passed away unexpectedly at the early age of 45.

Pookie had experienced tremendous loss, with the
passing of three of her adult children, Andrea (Ney), Richie, Denise, (Neecy Bug), AND her grandson Tommy, who lost his life at the tender age of 21. Such an unimaginable loss! Life is not fair! I don´t know how any person could make it through all of this, but Pookie did. Thank God she had her other children, Vivian (she called her Viola), Lisa and Allison (Allibeth) to hold her up.

Pookie was one of the strongest women I know! I could call her anytime; when life was throwing me lemons, she ALWAYS made lemonade!

She was a great listener. She told me I could call her anytime. Oftentimes she said she wished she lived closer, so that she could be there for me in times of need (which for me was A LOT) but, I understood that Lake Shasta was her home, alongside Danny, her doting husband.

Pookie taught me that
love was not about what you receive from others, but about giving selflessly without expecting ANYTHING in return.
It isn´t about standing together only in the good and prosperous moments; it´s about holding each other up through the tough and challenging times, taking turns to support one another when needed.

Pookie was a great cook. I´d call her asking for recipes, and she´d always pick up. She never measured; a dash of this, a dash of that. :) She said "it´s SOOOO easy," because to her, it was! Geez, I never quite mastered making gravy, but Pookie´s was always THE BEST. Pookie was my Julia Child / Martha Stewart and Rachel Ray in the kitchen. She gave me encouragement, and I loved her for that!

She also knew how to sew. She sewed her 5 (+1) children´s clothes when they were growing up. Now THAT, (sewing) I didn´t get from her.

She had a zeal and zest for life. She spent her time on earth loving BIG, and being loved. She had so much capacity for love.

I lost my Mom and now Pookie.
I now understand this:
"You never know how precious your mother's voice is until you can no longer hear it."

Heaven gained another angel.
Love you Pookie.
Rest peacefully.

I'll never forget the summers playing in the hot El Centro sun as a child at your house, visiting the Country Boy to see you, Nana and all the family or the cool leisurely summers playing in the upper Sacramento River, walking the train tracks with my fishing pole, swimming with my cousins and eating freshly picked blueberries from the yard that you would cook to mix into pancakes for breakfast. I loved reading the books on your shelves about the wild West, watching movies down in the basement or teaching us how to play Canasta. Long trips in the back of the pickup and a birthday card every year. You were the corner stone of our family for so long and an inspiration. Im going to miss you dearly, I love you Grandma.

My grandma was a great woman who took care of of her family the best way she knew how and that was with love. I didn't call her grandma I called her mom. One of the few grandkids that did. She was a mom to me especially after I lost my own mother. She was always there for me. I will miss her more then words can say but she'll always be in my heart.
