Rachel Ann Allred, 87, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

A funeral service to honor Ms. Rachel’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 18th at Glad Tidings Church, officiated by Rev. Tim Marriner. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Ms. Rachel was born on April 28, 1937, in Randleman, North Carolina, to the late Walter and Ila Mae Hill. She met her forever love, Bernard Gray Allred and they married in June 1955. They shared almost 45 years together before his passing in January 2000. Throughout her life, Ms. Rachel touched countless lives with her kindness and belief in the power of love and helping others.

She dreamed of becoming a nurse and returned to college to do so after raising her daughter. After working 11 years as an LPN at Carteret General Hospital, she became a full-time grandmother and worked as a receptionist and teacher/mentor in her church. For many years she taught a class at Glad Tidings for new believers. In later years, she served on the bereavement meal team. Ms. Rachel also began and served in a ministry for widows and did so until her illness in November. Ms. Rachel will be remembered as a true beacon of faith, which showed in her desire to help others learn and grow in their relationship with God.

The family would like to thank all the many friends, church family, neighbors, and others who helped during the last 6 months of her declining health. A special thank you goes to Carteret Health Care Home Health and Hospice, in particular, Robin Lingle, Brenda Greene, and sitter, Tonya Batten.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her loving daughter, Cathy Marriner and husband Rev. Tim Marriner of Newport; brother, Tommy Hill and wife Mary of Randleman, NC; sister, Nancy McDaniel of Randleman, NC; grandsons, Grayson Marriner and wife Kayla of Raleigh, NC, Jordan Marriner of Newport and girlfriend Victoria Price of Grantsboro, NC; and precious great-granddaughter, Olivia Marriner.

In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Gray Allred; and her brother, Gary Hill.

As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to Glad Tidings Church/Essentials Ministry (For New Believers), 4621 Country Club Road, Morehead City, NC 28557, or Carteret Health Care Home Health & Hospice, 3722 Bridges Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
