Rachel Avena ObituaryTRUMBULL- Rachel Avena, age 88 of Trumbull, entered peaceful rest on Friday, October 17, 2025 in Arden Care of Hamden. Born in New Haven on May 30, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Concetta (Sylvestri) Avena.
Rachel was a very talented graphic artist and cartoonist who loved sharing her work with her family. She was known for her creative and unique ornamental Christmas cards, and was also chosen by the Reagan administration for their feature Christmas tree decoration for the 1981 season. In her spare time she could be found bowling with her friends at Nutmeg Bowl of Fairfield. An avid traveler, Rachel took many trips throughout the world. She loved fast cars, the casino, and her trips to the theatres in New York with the "Six Pack" group will always be cherished.
Rachel is survived by her loving nephew and niece, Jeffrey Banores and his wife Pamela, and Neila Faulkner and her husband Edward, Sr.; great nieces and nephews, Amanda Banores, John Banores and his wife Kara, Hannah Banores, Tajinae Faulkner and Edward Faulkner, Jr.; as well as her great-great niece and nephew, Emma and Evan Banores. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Ann Banores and Lucille Avena.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at 11am in the Church of the Good Shepherd (St. Nicholas Parish), 135 Mountain Rd., Seymour, CT 06483. Relatives and friends can greet the family from 9:30am to 10:30am in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 W. Church St., Seymour, CT 06483.
