Radames Cespedes, aged 75, of Barnegat, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin, New Jersey.
Born in Havana, Cuba, Radames fled his native land in search of freedom and opportunity where he found both in the United States. Through hard work, perseverance and faith he built a successful life for himself and his family becoming a respected businessman and beloved member of the Hispanic community of New Jersey. Radames was also a devoted husband and father.
For thirty years Radames served as an administrator for the Puerto Rican Congress of New Jersey, where he was admired for his professionalism, compassion and dedication to others. Known for his kind heart he was always willing to help anyone in need and gave generously of his time and talents to those around him. His warmth and sincerity earned him not only respect but deep affection from all who knew him.
A gifted musician throughout his life, Radames was an accomplished percussionist who performed Latin and Jazz music with several renowned artists including the legendary, Eddie Palmieri. Music was his joy and his language, a way of connecting with others and celebrating life. Outside of music he also enjoyed building remote model boats, scuba diving, sky diving, traveling and sharing his culinary talents. His Pernil was legendary among his family and friends as it was prepared with the same love he brought to everything he did.
Radames was predeceased by his beloved daughter Zonay Cespedes. He is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Lydia Valencia-Cespedes, his loving children Zulay Cespedes, Ana Isabel Ramos-Cespedes and her husband Ramnel, Tiana Payne-Cespedes, Lauren Caruso and her husband Antonio, Giselle Verdi-Manetto and her husband Carlo, Frances L. Verdi, Yasmin Verdi-Costagliola and her husband Diego, Edward Verdi and his wife Tanya, Miguel Gonzalez and his wife Dana as well as his cherished grandchildren Salvatore, Victoria, Giancarlo, Christina, Isabella, Sienna, Katarina, Jayla, Nia, Taylor and his great grandson John Archer.
Those who knew Radames will remember him not only for his talents and accomplishments but also for his generosity, gentle spirit and unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the joy he brought to so many.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ. A Service will take place at 7:30PM.
