Rae Ann Staskiewicz, 75, of Galesburg, died at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois. She was born January 4, 1950 in DePue, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond Vincent and Helen Jane (Unholz) Staskiewicz.
After graduating from high school, she went on to pursue her career for the State of Illinois Agriculture Department for 37 years, first in Springfield and then Galesburg. She then worked in the Histology Department at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria for 16 years. Rae was active in the Illinois Society for Histotechnology, serving as President for 8 years. She also served on the Board of Directors of National Society for Histotechnology for two terms. Rae was well known in the Histology community for her intensive knowledge; she trained many techs over the years. She made Cursillo #644 and continued to remain very active in that. Rae loved serving others in the community. She was a devout Catholic and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Left to cherish her memory is a brother-in-law, Donald Perrero; three nephews: Daren (Karen) Perrero, Doug (Donna) Perrero, and Bryan Perrero; several great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews; many cousins; her special friend, Dana Spears; and lots of Cursillo friends. Rae will be remembered for being such a sweet, caring, and wonderful lady.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Barbara Perrero; and a great nephew, Vincent Perrero.
Cremation will be accorded. Rosary will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the funeral mass to follow. Father Jeffrey Stirniman will officiate. Light refreshments will be provided afterwards at the IHM Parish Center. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DePue with her parents. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.wastonthomas.com.
