Rajinder Singh, lovingly known as "Jay" to many, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 7, 2025, surrounded by the family who adored him. He was 59 years old, but his life was so rich with love, laughter, and devotion that it cannot be measured in years alone.
Rajinder's journey began on January 4, 1966, in Boparai, Punjab. From an early age, his life took him across countries and cultures first to the United Kingdom, where he attended part of high school, then to Germany, a place he spoke of with great fondness. He built a beautiful life in Italy before making the move to the United States on August 23, 2010, determined to give his family the brightest future possible.
At the heart of Rajinder's life was his family.
As a husband to Kulwinder, he built a love filled with patience, kindness, and unwavering support. He made her comfort and happiness his life's mission, encouraging every dream she had and making sure she always felt cherished. Their marriage was one of true partnership and deep affection a love that grew stronger with every passing year. They enjoyed shopping dates, long walks together with Benji, and sharing countless conversations. Rajinder often told her stories from his younger years in the UK going to the pub with his grandfather, his fondness for The Beatles, and his love for the TV show Friends. Known for his sharp eye, he loved hunting for the best deals and would research products in detail whenever someone in the family needed something, making sure they got only the very best.
To his daughter Mandeep, Rajinder was the Superman of her life her protector, teacher, and best friend. He taught her to ride her first bike, drive her first car, and proudly stood beside her on every first day of school. He shared his passion for cars, showing her not just how to drive them, but how to care for them, passing down lessons of independence and strength. He had a quiet way of helping, stepping in to fix things or solve problems without ever drawing attention to it and she always knew she could count on him. Every morning before work, he would text to ask if she wanted coffee or juice, and by the time she came downstairs, a cup would be waiting on the dining table. Without him, life will always feel incomplete, but she carries his voice, wisdom, and example in her heart. Her greatest wish now is to make her father proud in everything she does, knowing he will be watching, smiling, and guiding her still.
To his son Karan, Rajinder was a guiding light and lifelong role model. He taught Karan the values of honesty, hard work, and never giving up. Just before the family moved to the United States, at their home in Italy, Rajinder returned from a 12-hour shift at a marble factory, placed an arm around Karan, and said:
"As you can see, I have worked all day cutting big blocks of marble. I do not want to see my son do such heavy and long hours of manual labor. Study, my son - your life will be set, and you won't have to struggle like I do."
Those words changed Karan's life. From that day, he dedicated himself to his studies, eventually graduating college and building a successful career. Rajinder lived to see his son's achievements, not only in his career but also in the man he became something that made him immensely proud.
To Aman, his daughter-in-law, Rajinder was never "in-law," but simply a father. Together with Benji, they were the "Three Musketeers" inseparable in their adventures. They bonded over a shared love of food, whether it was fixing things around the house, discovering new shows, or exchanging endless jokes, often roasting each other without fear. Always on the hunt for new recipes, they made sure every dish had just the right spice. They shared life stories, proudly declaring "assi jatt ah," and in playful moments, it was always "Mr. Singh" and "Aman ji." The last thing she taught him was "stick 'em up," a playful gesture where he'd point his fingers like a gun, showing the world he'd "got this." More than family, they were true friends whose laughter and warmth filled every room.
And then there was Benji, his "third child." Rajinder and Benji were inseparable. They took daily walks, shared playful moments, and enjoyed afternoon coffee and naps together. In Benji's eyes, Rajinder was his whole world, and in Rajinder's eyes, Benji was pure joy.
Rajinder was also a devoted and loving son, ensuring his parents lived in comfort and never felt the weight of his own struggles. He worked quietly and selflessly to give them peace, always shielding them from pain.
As a brother to his four siblings, two brothers and two sisters he was the steady anchor, always showing up for their special moments, supporting them through life's challenges, and celebrating their joys as if they were his own. His bond extended to his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, who loved his warm humor and trusted him as someone they could turn to for comfort, laughter, or advice.
Beyond his family, Rajinder was deeply loved in his workplace. Known for his charm, warmth, and genuine care for people, he left an impression that lasted long after his time there. Even years later, co-workers fondly remembered him, and customers still asked for "Jay," smiling at the memories they shared with him.
Rajinder was handsome, charming, and full of life. His sense of humor could light up a room, and his determination could move mountains. He worked tirelessly, often putting his own needs last, to make sure his family's dreams came true. Even in his most difficult days, his courage and resilience inspired everyone who knew him.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Kulwinder; his loving daughter, Mandeep; his cherished, son Karan and daughter-in-law, Aman; his loyal dog, Benji; his siblings, extended family, and many friends who will forever hold his memory close.
Rajinder's life was a gift, and his love will remain the heartbeat of his family forever. His family invites all who knew him to remember him not with sorrow alone, but with the laughter, strength, and joy he brought into their lives.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 275 East Main Street, Middletown, DE. Interment will be held privately.
