Ralph Montgomery Allgood

Ralph "Pete" Montgomery Allgood, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away on Wednesday, June 18th, 2025, in Louisburg, NC. Born on Saturday, May 10th, 1941, at home in Baskerville, Virginia, Pete lived a life full of love, laughter, and adventure until the age of 84.

Pete was affectionately known as "The Mama's Boy" and cherished his family deeply. He shared a special bond with his favorite sister, the late Elva Jean. Preceded in death by his parents, Robert Montgomery Allgood and Ruby May Dunn Allgood, Pete also reunites with his sisters, Elva Jean Simmons and Ruth Lee Caroll and brothers, Beverly Turner Allgood and John William Allgood in the great beyond.

Pete is survived by his wife, Julia Jeannette Hill; his sons, Troy Allgood (Amy) and Stacey Allgood; and his daughters, Sandi Warner (Will), Shelia Renee Hickman and sister Betty Ann Beck. His family meant the world to him and his memory will forever live in their hearts.

A man with an irrepressible zest for life, Pete was an avid NASCAR fan who found joy in the roar of engines and the skillful maneuvers of his favorite drivers, including Carl Edwards, aka, Concrete Carl. He loved the tranquility of fishing with his much-loved cane pole and found peace and excitement in the great outdoors. Pete was not only an accomplished hunter but also took great pleasure in raising exotic animals, with a particular fondness for bunnies and his favorite dog, Sophie.

With only a sixth-grade education, Pete’s life path demonstrated that true success lies not in academia but in character, hard work, and kindness. As a pit foreman for Wake Stone Corporation, he not only managed quarry pit, but kept his employees supplied with Nabs and Mt. Lightning as the de facto convenience store. Every month he would go a step farther and grill steaks and burgers for his crew every one Friday per month. Pete was renowned for his exemplary work ethic, quick wit, sharp intelligence, and generous heart. He was, indeed, as sharp as a tack and as warmhearted as they come.

Peter’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home Chapel.

In Pete’s memory, let us remember his love for family, his passion for nature and adventure, and his remarkable ability to spread kindness wherever he went. Though he is no longer with us, the lessons he imparted and the love he shared will endure eternally in the hearts of those who were privileged to know him.
