Ralph Coleman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Angels Cremation Center - Bakersfield on Dec. 24, 2024.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ralph Terry Coleman, a devoted father, husband, and proud United States Marine. Ralph, a beacon of courage, strength, and honor, departed this world on December 9, 2024, at the age of 80, in Vacaville, California, after a brave battle with illness.
Born in the humble town of Piedmont, Alabama, on September 15, 1944, Ralph's journey was one of unwavering patriotism and service. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and embraced the call to duty with every fiber of his being, earning a bronze star that shone as a testament to his honor, courage, and commitment. Ralph's military tenure was not just a career; it was a chapter of a life lived in the service of others, protecting the freedoms and liberties we hold dear.
After his distinguished service, Ralph transitioned to civilian life with the same valor and dedication. He pursued knowledge in the halls of Youngstown State University, studying Business Administration, and applied his intelligence and discipline to every endeavor. Ralph's love for sports-football, basketball, hunting, and especially fishing-reflected his competitive spirit and zest for life. He found solace in the great outdoors, where the tranquility of camping and the joy of being on a lake brought him immense pleasure.
Ralph's hands were not only strong from years of military service but also skilled in the art of woodwork. Crafting and creating were passions that allowed him to express a gentler, more reflective side of his character. He loved working with his hands, a trait that symbolized his ability to shape not only materials but also the lives of those around him.
Family was the cornerstone of Ralph's world. He was a cherished father to Kimberly Coleman McCall and the late Kevin J. Coleman. As a grandfather to Maurice R. Coleman and John H. Bankston II, and a great-grandfather to Bryan D. Coleman, Xavier J. Bankston, and Josiah J. Bankston, Ralph instilled values of love, generosity, and intelligence. His sister, Barbra Cathey of Youngstown, Ohio, nieces, nephews, and an abundance of friends and fellow servicemen, will forever cherish his memory as a mentor and friend, whose warmth and willingness to lend a helping hand were unparalleled.
Ralph Coleman's legacy is not only etched in the medals and accolades he earned but also in the hearts of those he touched. He will be remembered as a valiant Marine, a beloved father, and a loyal friend whose spirit continues to inspire. Ralph's life was a testament to the power of living with a purpose greater than oneself, and his story encourages us to pursue our passions with fervor and to serve with a heart full of love.
Today, as we reflect on the life of Ralph Coleman, let us not dwell on the sorrow of his departure, but instead, celebrate the indelible mark he left on this world. Let his dedication to family, his love for his country, and his passion for life motivate us to reach for the stars and to live each day with the same courage and conviction that he demonstrated throughout his life.
Rest in peace, Ralph Coleman. Your bravery, your kindness, and your unwavering spirit have left an indelible mark on this world, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Your courage and dedication to living a life of service and love will never be forgotten.
