Ralph Marcarelli Obituary

Ralph Edmund Marcarelli
October 3, 1935 - January 11, 2026
Ralph Edmund Marcarelli, 90, of New Haven, Connecticut, and Palm City, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026. A lifelong son of Wooster Square's vibrant Italian-American community, Ralph was born in New Haven to Ralph Julius Marcarelli and Anna Carbone Marcarelli. He embodied the values of family, faith, hard work, and fairness that defined his roots.
A dedicated attorney and public servant, Ralph earned advanced degrees including a B.A. from Fairfield University, M.A. from Middlebury College, M.Phil. and Ph.D. from Yale University (with a dissertation on Dante's "Language of Grace"), and legal training at Georgetown and Bridgeport law schools. His career included roles as Headmaster of The Milford Academy, Chief Counsel to the Connecticut Commissioner of Consumer Protection, Workers' Compensation Commissioner, and Of Counsel at the LoRicco Law Firm in New Haven, where he advocated with integrity.
A self-taught pianist passionate about Neapolitan music, Ralph performed at local events, sharing his heritage joy fully. Deeply devoted to God and the Blessed Virgin Mary, he lived his faith quietly. In retirement, he enjoyed Palm City, Florida, with his beloved dog Gus and dear friends.
Ralph is survived by his brother, Edmund Julius Marcarelli (and wife Patricia), nieces, nephews, cousins from the Marcarelli, DeGennaro, Cusano, Carbone, Ciesla, Palumbo, and Provitz families, and many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his parents and others dear to him.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 4-8 p.m. in the Iovanne Funeral Home, Inc., 11 Wooster Place, New Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, New Haven. Please meet directly at Church. The burial at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Share a memory by visiting Ralph's Tribute page at www.iovanne.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Historic Wooster Square Association (historicwoostersquare.org ) to honor Ralph's love for his heritage, faith, and service.
Ralph lived with grace, loved deeply, and left an enduring legacy-from Dante's poetry to courtroom justice, from Neapolitan melodies to quiet prayers. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.

I have known Ralph from our high school days. Intelligent, hardworking and always a gentleman. Ralph was always willing to share his vast knowledge with all who asked. An academic, a musician, a political figure and a decent human being. The world Ralph moved in was a better place because he was in it. Rest in Peace friend.

I do recall so many years ago, that I met Ralph Marcarelli at a benefit fashion show for the Legal Secretaries Association in New Haven - I believe he and I played the piano for the models. He was a learned man with a great love for his music and for the Italian Community in New Haven
My condolences to the family and my prayers for him.
