Mason-White Funeral Home - WashingtonRalph (Stan) Matheny, 67, of Peoria, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025. Born on March 19, 1958 in Camden, TN, Stan was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness and generosity touched everyone who knew him. He was known for his big bear hugs, warm smile, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for his family and friends. Stan spent over 25 years in education. He worked as a PE teacher at Pleasant Valley School and Limestone High School.
In addition to teaching, Stan was the head boys' basketball coach at Limestone High School. He spent the latter years of his education career as the Jr/Sr High principal at Low-Point Washburn and Elmwood. Stan served as a deacon at Maranatha Baptist Church in Peoria and as a chaplain at the Elk's Lodge #20 of Peoria. Outside of work, he enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, playing tennis, country music, playing card games, beach vacations, and attending his grandchildren's activities.
Above all, Stan was a family man. He adored his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends. His happiest moments were those spent sharing stories with the people who meant the most to him. Stan's memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his example of kindness and love will never be forgotten. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Debbie; sister, Gloria Flynn; brother, Tom Matheny; children, Chad Jones (Alison), Jackie Billington (Jordan), Justin Jones (Jacqui); grandchildren, Jilian, Reese, Lincoln, Harper, and Stella; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Sterlon and Elizabeth Anita Matheny; brothers, Mike and Joe Matheny.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a memorial service starting at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Mason-White Funeral Home (20 Valley Forge Road, Washington, IL 61571). Following the memorial service, family and friends are invited to the Elk's Lodge #20 (1 Elk's Dr. Peoria, IL 61604) to celebrate Stan's life.The celebration of life will begin at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Stan's name to the Elk's Lodge, 1 Elk's Dr. Peoria, IL 61604 or St. Jude’s Children's Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.
