Ralph Grady Toney, a devoted family man and respected member of the community, passed away peacefully at his residence on November 4, 2025. He was born on March 21, 1941, in Rutherford County, NC, and dedicated much of his life to his career in the textiles industry as a loom fixer. Ralph's skills and hard work contributed to the livelihoods of many, and he was known for his unwavering commitment to his craft.
As a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church in Shelby, Ralph found strength and community in his faith. His commitment to the church and its values was evident through his active participation and fellowship. The services honoring his life will be held at Flint Hill Baptist Church, located at 2207 Flint Hill Church Rd, Shelby, NC 28152. Visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM on November 10, 2025. He will be laid to rest at Cleveland Memorial Park, commencing the same day following the funeral service.
Ralph's legacy will be carried on by his beloved family, including his sons, Aaron Toney and Kevin Toney, along with his daughter-in-law, Jennifer. He is also survived by his siblings, Floyd Toney, Catherine Self, Irene Murray, Doris Cash, and Cora Cooper. Ralph took great joy in his role as grandfather and great-grandfather, leaving behind an enduring impact on his grandchildren: Andi Holland and husband Josh, Douglas Toney and wife Ciera, Grady Toney and wife Dom, Dakota Toney, Samuel Toney, and Eric McDaniel, as well as his cherished great-grandchildren, Landon Holland, Grayson Holland, Ansley Holland, Maddie Toney, Blakeley Toney, and Oakland Toney.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth Agnes Davis Toney, and his son, Ralph Grady Toney, Jr. Ralph was also survived by several late siblings, including Horace Toney, Joel Toney, JC Toney, Lawrance Toney, and Lois Toney, and his parents, Miles Smith Toney and Ollie Wright Toney.
Ralph's hobbies included woodworking, which was not only a passion but also a means of expressing his creativity and craftsmanship. He will be remembered for his warm spirit, gentle demeanor, and the profound love he shared with his family and friends.
The services will be officiated by Rev. Shane Kirby, and pallbearers will include Grady Toney, Dakota Toney, Josh Holland, Douglas Toney, Landon Holland, and Mitchell Bowen. Ralph Grady Toney's memory will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering strength.
