Ralph "Huggie" Troeger

Ralph "Huggie" Troeger, 75, passed away on November 12, 2024, in Mount Pleasant, SC. Born on February 7, 1949, Ralph grew up in Sycamore, IL, graduating from Sycamore High School in 1967. He was known for his great sense of humor, wit, and kind, generous spirit.
Ralph dedicated much of his life to serving others as a paramedic. He co-founded ATEC Ambulance Service with Rita Troeger. Together, they expanded the company from operating just two ambulances out of thier home to managing over 30 ambulances and various station houses across the Chicagoland area.
Outside of his professional life, Ralph was a devoted family man and an enthusiastic hobbyist. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, reveling in their achievements across sports, arts, and music. A passionate WWII gun enthusiast, collector, and historian, Ralph also took pride in his meticulously restored candy apple green 1955 Chevy Nomad. He enjoyed dancing and traveling with his wife, Barb, and relaxing at their family property in Black River Falls, WI.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife, Barb Troeger; brother, Robert (Sue) Troeger; children, Brad (Tami) Troeger and Katie (Travis) Nickels; step-daughters, Kimberly Tall and Kelly (Wade) Roberts; and grandchildren, Kali (Evan), Jordan, Braden, Zackary, Easton, Zoey, and Harper, as well as a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Bernice Troeger; sister, Peggy Craggs; and brother, William "Bill" Troeger.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 8th at the First Baptist Church in Sycamore, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in Ralph's memory. Ralph's legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication to his community will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
