Ralph Leonard Wheat, Jr., a lifelong resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025, at the age of 88.

Ralph graduated from McGill Institute in 1955 and went on to graduate from Auburn University in 1962. In 1963, he was honorably discharged from the Army and returned to Mobile and began building houses. In later years, he started specializing in government contracts. He especially enjoyed passing on his construction knowledge to the young men and women he encountered during his career.

Ralph was an avid fisherman and a dedicated Auburn football fan-War Damn Eagle! He was also a member of a local Mardi Gras Mystic Society for more than forty years.

Ralph was well-known for his charming personality, humor, and natural ability to make people laugh. He was a great storyteller, often sharing memorable tales from his college years. He was a very special man, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary; his son, Scott; brother, Andy; and best friends, Billy, Aubrey and Bernard.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Julie; his children, DeeDee Raines (Craig), Becky Wheat-Hassel (Mike) and Jenny Wheat; grandchildren, Ralph (Ashley), Lauren, Sophie and Harrison; and his fur-babies, Johnny Cash, Petie and Charlie.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Wounded Warriors at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/ or any animal shelter or charity of your choice.
