Ramon Gonzalez, Jr. Obituary

Ramon “Baru” or “Bear” Gonzalez Jr., a devoted husband, beloved father, proud grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas, just days before his 68th birthday.

Born on September 24, 1957, to the late Ramon Gonzalez Sr. and Angelina Mendieta, Ramon lived a life defined by love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family and community.

In 1977, Ramon married the love of his life, Blanca, and together they built a beautiful life rooted in nearly five decades of partnership, hard work, and deep affection. They raised two children and later found their greatest joy in watching their grandchildren grow.

Ramon spent many years working for Arthur Brothers at the Celanese Chemical Plant in Bishop and later with Franklin Welding as a painter and sandblaster. When it came time to hang up his work boots, Ramon poured his heart into a new passion—creating hand-crafted wooden Christmas decorations, which now adorn countless homes throughout Kingsville, serving as lasting reminders of his creative spirit and generous heart.

A true outdoorsman, Ramon found peace and happiness in the simple joys of nature. Whether he was playing baseball in his younger years, hunting, fishing, raising farm animals, or growing watermelons and calabazas at the ranch, he embraced every moment with enthusiasm and gratitude. Weekend BBQs—often with whatever he had in the freezer—were a signature tradition, where stories, laughter, and food were shared among family and friends.

Ramon was a social butterfly, always happiest when surrounded by loved ones. His presence brought light to every room, and he was the first to lend a helping hand or offer words of encouragement. A self-proclaimed “jack of all trades, master of none,” Ramon’s wisdom came not just from books, but from life itself. He knew what it was to go without, and later, to give without hesitation. His purpose was simple yet profound: to be loved and respected—and he most certainly was.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ramon Gonzalez Sr. and Angelina Mendieta; his uncle Abel Gonzalez; his in-laws Cristela and Antonio Loera; Uncle Mingo Gonzalez; and his grandparents, Amadeo and Asuncion Mendieta.

Ramon is survived by his devoted wife, Blanca Gonzalez; his children Melissa (William) Barrett and Ramon (Catherine) Gonzalez; and his eight beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind his siblings: Marisol (Hugo) Valdez, Joe Gonzalez, and Maribel (Richard) Villarreal; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends who were blessed to know him.

The family will receive condolences from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Turcotte Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, TX; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at St. Martins of Tours Catholic Church. Services will conclude after mass.

Ramon’s legacy is one of love, strength, humility, and kindness. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
