Randall "Randy" Fayette Mentry, a beacon of kindness, intelligence, and humor, left this world on September 1, 2025. Born October 7th, 1966 in Syracuse, New York to Harold and Beverly Mentry.
Randy is survived by his wife Elaine Mentry, his mother Beverly Mentry, all of his siblings, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Harold Mentry.
Randy was a brother to; Timothy (Cindy), Emily, Robert (Julie), Gail and Mark, an uncle to Kristina (Steven), Patrick, Wyatt, Addie, Harley (Nick), Trent (Paige), Audrey, Jared and a great-uncle to Wade, Will and Ryver. Randy was also a proud decedent of Earl William Covey who is a profound pillar of the Big Moose and Twitchell Lake community in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. To his family Randy was a guiding light, his advice was sought after and his humor was an endless source of entertainment.
Randy was not just a son, brother and uncle but most importantly a loving husband to his wife Elaine. They spent 25 years together and were married for 10 years. Their time together showed all that loved them that dedication, unwavering support and love are the true foundation of a relationship. Randy and Elaine enjoyed traveling, live music and shared a love for weimaraners.
During his childhood Randy partook in many different activities; football as a defensive player, marching band and the Young Marines being the most monumental. The Dunedin High School marching band took Randy all the way to Scotland and the Young Marines took Randy to Parris Island where he received the National Young Marine of the Year award.
After college Randy spent a number of years in a few different jobs until he found the industry he would call home for the remainder of his career, bridge and roadway construction. During his tenure with Atkins Realis working as Project Administrator he formed lasting connections with coworkers who would become dear friends. Randy was a part of many impressive projects, some including the Selmon Expressway and his final one being the new Howard Franklin Bridge. While Randy's achievements are vast and impactful they don't come close to the impact he made on everyone around him. His ability to provide you with a good laugh and profound advice in a single interaction left a lasting impression.
A conversation with Randy often led to a story, or lecture to his nieces and nephews, that allowed him to share his wisdom with all. His love for storytelling translated into his love for reading, you could often find him stopping at the library to get his next set of books.
Beyond his work, Randy was an avid golfer. He found peace and camaraderie on the greens, and his love for the game was only matched by his skill. Live music was another of Randy's passions. He believed in the power of a good melody and the communal experience of sharing it with friends and strangers alike.
