Irene Komninos Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Curlew Hills Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Nov. 15, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Irene "Rena" Komninos fell asleep in the Lord on November 12, 2025. She was born on Epiphany Day, January 6, 1949, in Ithaka, Greece. Also, in 1969, on Epiphany Day and on her birthday, she married the love of her life, Tilemachos "Telly" Komninos, in Piraeus, Greece. Together with their first-born son, they immigrated to the United States in 1970. A year and a half later, Rena & Telly welcomed their second son. In 1977 the young family moved from New York City to sunny Clearwater, Florida, to build a better life - an accomplishment they ultimately achieved through hard work, sacrifice, and unwavering family devotion.
Rena was a loving wife, an embracing mother, a precise homemaker, an excellent cook, and a terrific dancer. While a "force of nature" in her own regard, Rena was also the quiet strength behind her children and her husband's successes, supporting Telly as he, along with other close family members, opened Telly's Family Restaurant at Seminole Mall. The restaurant operated successfully for nearly thirty (30) years and became a beloved community staple known for its warmth, hospitality, and strong Greek family tradition - all characteristics directly exhibited by Rena.
Rena and Telly shared a remarkable marriage - one defined by love, trust, respect, kindness, and lifelong dedication. During the past seven (7) years of Rena's journey with Alzheimer's, Telly cared for her with profound tenderness and care, honoring the vows they made more than five (5) decades ago.
Rena's family and friends take great comfort in knowing that she lived a beautiful and meaningful life, that she was deeply loved, and that she now rests peacefully in the heavenly Kingdom.
Rena is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Tilemachos "Telly" Komninos; her son, Spiro T. Komninos, Esq., and his spouse, The Honorable Judge Theodora C. Komninos; her son, Athanasios "Tom" Komninos and his spouse, Gina Rosato, Esq., her cherished granddaughters - Avyi Ireni Komninos, Eirini Christina Komninos, and Anitra Komninos; as well as extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Rena's viewing will take place on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Sts. Raphael, Nicholas & Irene Greek Orthodox Church in Palm Harbor, Florida, at 10:00 a.m. Funeral services will commence at 11:00 a.m., with burial immediately following at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens. A traditional Greek Makaria gathering will be held afterward at the Cretan House.
Flowers are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to causes supporting Alzheimer's research or the Tampa Bay Area Greek Orthodox community, in loving memory of our Rena.
