Cleopatra Komninos, age 92, formerly of Upper Saddle River, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2022. Cleo was born on July 13, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Thomas and Kate Catherines and grew up in Bensonhurst. She graduated Bay Ridge High School, Class of 1948 and attended New York University. Cleo was a very active member of the Greek-American community in New York City. She met her future husband, John A. Komninos, at a church social event and married in 1950.
Cleo and John settled in New Jersey to start their family. They were original and long-time members of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff. Cleo was a travel agent for many years. She enjoyed traveling throughout the world to explore places she could recommend to her clients.
Surviving are her son, Thomas Komninos and his wife Winifred, and her daughter Marie Foti. Also surviving are her grandsons, Jason Komninos and Michael Foti. She was predeceased by her husband John in 2015, her grandson Stephen John Komninos in 2007, and her brother, G. Thomas Catherines in 1997.
Visiting, Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm, with the Trisagion Service at 5:30 pm, at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Funeral Service, Wednesday, August 24, 2022, 10:00 am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 467 Grandview Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. Entombment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, contributions in Cleo's memory may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. "Zoe Se Mas"
